7,000 Bracelets For Hope

112 jewelry designers, myself included, have joined up with Lori Anderson in supporting the  7,000 Bracelets For Hope project.  The  Global Genes Project, a children’s rare disease campaign, is collecting bracelets to be sent to families who have a child with a rare disease.  Why 7,000 bracelets?  Because over 7,000 rare diseases have been identified.

Rare diseases often suffer from an acute lack of funding for research into the causes and treatments of the diseases.  This particular project is not a fund-raiser, however, but rather, it’s a way of demonstrating support to families that are facing incredible obstacles in their daily lives.  As a play on words, all the bracelets are to be blue jean (gene!) colored.  The bracelets will be sent to the families this Christmas.

I’d encourage you to learn more about the Global Genes Project and the Bracelets for Hope Project.  Perhaps you would like to support their work to help people suffering from a rare disease.

Shaiha’s new earrings. Congratulations!

I have been on something of an earring kick lately. These Blue Cloisonné Earrings are the latest addition to my ArtFire Shop.  The sweet, little flowers on these beads make me dream of springtime.  Spring is coming, isn’t it?  It can’t hurry fast enough for me!

Bead Soup Blog Party

Let’s Party!

Welcome to the Bead Soup Blog Party!  Here’s how it works.  Lori Anderson, of Pretty Things, paired up all the participants. In January we sent each other a pendant, a nice clasp and some coordinating beads.  My partner, Elisabeth Auld, of Beads For Busy Gals, sent me a wonderful pendant and clasp she made herself, as well as many other goodies. I blogged about them here: Bead Soup Ingredients Arrive. You can visit Elisabeth’s blog to see what she made with the things I sent her.  I’d also encourage you to take a look at her Etsy shop to check out all her beaded beauties.

The Necklace

Blue handmade necklace by Linda Landig

I love the pendant Elisabeth made, so this necklace was a joy to design.  I placed her handmade clasp on the side, toward the front.  I wired two iolite briolettes and 4 Swarovski crystals to it.

I added two fabulous round rock crystals to balance the asymmetrical design.  The rock crystal echos the clear glass faceted rounds in Elisabeth’s clasp.

Lampwork Glass by Beads and Botanicals

I used turquoise lampworked beads from my friends at  Beads and Botanicals on either side of the pendant and the rock crystals. Elisabeth supplied the Montana Blue crystals and the rest of the beads were from my stash. This necklace is now available in my ArtFire Studio.

The Bracelet

There were still lots of Elisabeth’s goodies left over after the necklace was made, so I decided to make a bracelet.  I’ve redone this bracelet two times now and it still isn’t quite right! First it turned out to be too small.   I didn’t mind redoing it the first time because I just had a plain turquoise bead in the center and I had decided to switch it out and add a lampworked bead instead.  It turned out  much prettier this way, however….now it is too long! (*says impolite words here*)  So now I must redo it again and make it shorter.  I’ll add a link to it here when I finally get it “just so”.  The final version will be very similar to this:

Turqoise handmade bracelet with lampwork bead.

Don’t you just love the little bird charm that Elisabeth sent me?  I’ve had the speckled lampwork bead for a long time–I’m not sure who made it.  Elisabeth supplied the turquoise tubes, the off-white teardrop shaped beads and the turquoise colored lentil shaped beads.

Earring Giveaway!

I still had some of the turquoise tubes left, so I made some earrings to giveaway!  All you have to do, to be entered in the giveaway, is  leave a comment on this post.  A winner will be chosen the following Saturday.  If your comment doesn’t automatically leave a link where I can contact you, then please leave your email address with your comment.

Once again, I’d like to thank Lori Anderson for putting all this together.  There was an amazing amount of behind the scenes work that took place to coordinate something of this size.  Lori will be publishing a book on her Bead Soup Blog Parties.  I’ll post info on it when it comes out.  Stay tuned!

Jess Blue

2 Tone Blue Right Angle Weave Bracelet

A friend of mine was looking at this bracelet and exclaimed,  “That’s Jess Blue!”.  She was right.  Our mutual friend, Jess, loves this color.  Jessica designs awesome chainmaille jewelry and always photographs it with a Jess Blue background.  This cobalt blue just makes Jessica’s heart sing!

If I had to pick a single color, I think I’d name it Linda Orange.  Linda Orange is a rusty autumn orange – like the colors I’m wearing in this picture.  I love to wear all the colors of autumn: brick reds, bark browns, rusty orange and golden yellows.  You’ll find these colors popping up frequently in my jewelry.   They always make me feel happy and self-confident.

How about you?  What would be your signature color?
